Today I want to share some tips and tricks on caring and protecting your wooden kitchenware! To help prolong our investments, it’s always important that we take care of them!
- First tip: Always wash by hand, and clean immediately after use to prevent hard to remove food stains
- Do not keep them soaking long, rinse immediately and dry
- Always use natural cleaners
- Be careful when using wooden utensils with anything susceptible to harmful bacteria as bacteria can seep into the cracks and transfer on! You can sanitize by giving them a vinegar and lemon bath!
- Re hydrate regularly!
A good way to clean musty smelling odours from utensils is to add baking soda to your soapy water and that should help clear away any unwanted smells! .
.
For your wooden cutting board you can use this 2 ingredient non toxic disinfectant cleaner:
- Salt
- Lemon
Simply sprinkle salt directly on to the board, cut a lemon in half, squeeze & scrub!
Keeping it simple with 1 ingredient, with this preservation technique for cutting boards and wooden or bamboo utensils!
- Coconut oil
Take about a teaspoon of coconut oil, use your fingers to spread it around evenly, apply about 3 coats and let it dry! Voila! Good as new!
As wooden items absorb moisture, it’s best to replace every 5 years or so or if they start cracking, going soft or getting any discolouration as this can harbour unwanted bacteria!
